A self-supporting formwork that is reusable, lightweight and easily transported. Cast-in-place construction leads to low transportation costs of lightweight panels that can be embedded with structure on site. Structural “members” can be in the form of uniform dimensional lumber or a more loose fill of various sized aggregates or on-site materials. The inherent texture from the panel construction provides an aesthetic finish.
THE SITE: Ice booms are essentially hollow steel drums that retain ice from entering into the Niagara River from Lake Erie. The fleet of booms consists of 22 strings of ten hollow steel barrels each. A large footprint needed for ice boom storage renders the waterfront inaccessible and prevents lack of relevant programming on site. This seasonal storage at the waterfront, prevents accessibility.
RE-EVALUATING BOOM STORAGE: to free up square footage on beach creates space for new programming.
PUBLIC RECREATION PODS: including, new water closets, showers, toilets, fire pits, ice fishing holes.
